Two years ago, a routine mammogram changed my life. Today, I’m grateful to share that I remain cancer-free. Because my diagnosis was caught very early, I had the gift of time to research options and assemble a care team I trusted. While my physicians recommended lumpectomy, radiation, and medication, I chose a different path that felt right for me: breast cryoablation, a minimally invasive procedure that freezes the tumor. It took patience (and seven months of phone calls) to find a Michigan physician offering it—proof that advocacy matters.

At the same time, I treated my diagnosis like a wake-up call.

– I removed alcohol, sugar, and processed foods, reduced stress

– I began quarterly check-ins with an integrative doctor to track labs and support my body with targeted supplements.

– I also enrolled in advanced monitoring, including circulating tumor DNA testing, to keep a careful eye on my health between scans.

– A follow-up biopsy later showed no invasive cancer, with only a tiny area of DCIS remaining.

I don’t share this to prescribe a path—just to say that being informed, catching cancer early, and building a collaborative team can make all the difference. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and our theme is Thriving Beyond Breast Cancer—Innovation, Hope & Healing. Whether you are newly diagnosed, in treatment, a survivor, or supporting someone you love, I want this month to offer you practical tools and genuine encouragement. You’ll hear from two remarkable guests who meet women where they are—combining innovation with compassion, and science with real-world support.

Molly MacDonald — Co-Founder & CEO, The Pink Fund; Editor in Chief, Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine
Molly understands that breast cancer affects more than the body—it impacts families, finances, and the daily rhythm of life. She’ll share:

– What’s changing in the landscape of breast cancer—new research, emerging treatments, and why hope is warranted

– How The Pink Fund provides vital financial bridge support during treatment

– The vision behind Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine and how it can help patients and caregivers feel informed and less alone

Dr. Jeffrey Mensah, ND — Associates of Integrative Medicine
Integrative oncology focuses on helping women tolerate treatment better, protect organ function, and support long-term wellness. Dr. Mensah will cover:

– What integrative/naturopathic oncology is—and how it complements conventional care

– Which additional tests may offer clarity about your unique biology and needs

– Lifestyle levers you can control—nutrition, stress, sleep, movement—to improve quality of life during treatment and survivorship

If you’re walking this path, please remember there is no one “right” way—there is your way. My story is simply one example of partnering with a medical team, pursuing evidence-informed options, and making daily choices that support healing. I’m endlessly grateful for the physicians, researchers, advocates, and survivors who light the way for the rest of us.

To every woman reading this: schedule your screenings, ask questions, take notes, and bring a friend to appointments. Build your village. And if you need encouragement, our community is here for you.

With love and hope for your journey,
